Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences that anyone can go through. Grief can be overwhelming, and it can be challenging to know how to navigate the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it. However, it is vital to find healthy ways to cope and to remember your loved one. 

Join a grief support group 

It is crucial to know that you are not alone in your grief. Consider joining a grief support group in your area or online. Find a group that aligns with your values, so it is a safe space for you to share your feelings and thoughts. 

The Compassionate Friends: This organization provides support to families grieving the death of a child of any age, from any cause. 

Bereaved Parents of the USA: They are a nationwide organization designed to aid and support bereaved parents and their families struggling with the death of their children. 

National Alliance for Grieving Children: Provides a network for nationwide communication between hundreds of professionals and volunteers who want to share ideas, information, and resources with each other to better support the grieving children and families they serve. 

Alliance of Hope for Suicide Loss Survivors: It’s an organization helping those who have lost a loved one to suicide resolve their grief and pain in their own personal way. 

MISS Foundation: This organization offers assistance to families in coping with the loss of a child, regardless of the cause.

There are also several local grief support organizations in Chesapeake, VA that are committed to helping individuals process their grief and navigate the complexities of loss.  

Chesapeake General Hospital Bereavement Support: This group has been providing grief support to individuals in Chesapeake for several years. They offer both individual counseling sessions and group support meetings. 

Hampton Roads Bereavement Council: Serving the larger Hampton Roads area, which includes Chesapeake, this council organizes a variety of support groups for different types of loss. 

Bon Secours Bereavement Center: Part of the Bon Secours health system, the Bereavement Center offers a grief support group that meets twice a month. They also provide educational materials about the grieving process. 

Chesapeake Life Center: The Chesapeake Life Center offers a wide variety of grief support services, including individual counseling, group therapy, and workshops for those dealing with loss. 

Remember, it’s okay to seek help and you’re not alone in your journey of grief. Each of these organizations offers a safe and supportive environment to share your emotions, experiences, and find comfort in the presence of those who understand.
