Mrs. Viola McClure was born to Joe and Lela Williams on March 12, 1940 in Birmingham, AL. She was the youngest daughter of five children. Lillie May Jackson, Rosie Lee Ross, Joe Williams Jr., Lawrence Williams all who preceded Viola in death.

Viola, affectionately named GG, was a graduate of Parker High School in Birmingham, AL. She moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1950. In 1952 she met and married the love of her life, Cleady C. McClure Jr. Their union was blessed with two children, Michael Williams (preceded in death) and Truly Ann Conner of Chesapeake VA. Viola was adevoted wife and mother.

“GG” was the life of the party at every event. She loved the performing arts, jazz, the blues, and gospel. She was an awesome singer and dancer. Her talents were often displayed at many family events and in her church in Detroit, Browns Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Viola served for four years as a nurse’s assistant at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit. She lived in Detroit until 2014 when she moved to live with her daughter Truly and son-in-love Captain Fred Conner (USN,RET).

“GG” was a blessing and bright light to all who knew her. Her smile, her humor was top notch. Her zest for life was apparent, and she always reminded us to LIVE, LAUGH, and LOVE.

VIOLA departed this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 surrounded by family who loved and adored her.

Left behind to cherish PRECIOUS memories include daughter and son-in-love Truly and Fred Conner; Grandchildren: Donnie, D’Juan, Desmond Graham, Taressa and Givon Conner, Mariah Farris, Michael Jr, and granddaughter-in-love Vivian Carter. 14 great grand children will also cherish her memories. Her spirit will live on in us all.
