Obituary

Florida-Vanessa Mann, 65, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday; October 27, 2025 in Niceville, Florida after a courageous 11-year battle with dementia. She was born on March 17, 1960 to Joseph and Allene McPherson in Norfolk, where she
was raised. Vanessa was a 1978 graduate of Maury High School and earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice from Norfolk State University.

Vanessa had a 27-year career as a civil servant with the United States Department of the Navy and the United States Department of the Army. Her career reflected her commitment and integrity, but her greatest joy was always her family. She was a devoted mother and an even more devoted "Nana."  In her free time, Vanessa loved spending time with her friends, especially if it involved dancing or traveling abroad. She was known for her big smile and infectious energy. She touched countless lives and was affectionately considered a "second mom"
to many of her daughter's friends.

Preceding Vanessa in death was her loving parents, Joseph and Allene McPherson. She is survived by her daughter Aireka Aikens; son-in-law Joe Aikens; grandchildren: Joey and Kennedy Aikens who will forever remember the love, laughter, and warmth she brought into their lives; her exhusband, Darryl Mann; mother-in-law, Carolyn Mann; sister-in-law, Carol Dolberry; nephew, Frankie Dolberry (Michelle); her great niece, Madison Emory Dolberry; other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support received since her passing. A special thank you to the compassionate care team at Emerald Coast Hospice and the dedicated staff and families at Partin Place for their exceptional care and kindness to Vanessa.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11am Friday; November 14, 2025 at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk, Virginia.
