Life and legacy of Phyllis Featherston Williams
Almighty God in his infinite wisdom, dispatched one of his choice angels to escort our beloved, Phyllis Featherston Williams, from this earthly existenceto eternal life with him.
Phyllis was born in Norfolk, Virginia on the second of March, nineteen hundred and forty-seven. She was the third child and only daughter of the late Deacon Henry Joseph Featherston, Sr. and Dr. Mary Mays Featherston.
Phyllis was reared in Norfolk, Virginia and attended school in the Norfolk Public School System. She receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Norfolk State University and as she continued along the education track, she later received her Master's Degree from Old Dominion University. She also received a Doctoral Degree of Divinity from Trinity Mission University.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Garland Ronnell Williams, Sr., her eldest brother, Elder Henry Joseph Featherston, Jr., andhis wife, Rosa Featherston.
Phyllis accepted Christ at a very young age and became a faithful member of C. H. Mason Memorial Church of God in Christ church and later, Trinity Faith Centre Church. She honored the Lord with her service as President of the International Women's Ministry, Evangelist, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, and worship leader. Phyllis was a steadfast and devoted member of Trinity Faith Centre Church until her last hours.
Mrs. Williams, as she was affectionally known, taught in the Chesapeake Public School System until her retirement in nineteen hundred ninety-nine. After retirement, she continued her love for education by opening a home learning center for children, also known as a daycare. She also taught at theChesapeake Adult Education Center.
Phyllis was instrumental in spearheading other learning facilities such as Kujichagulia Academy, Cathedral of Faith Learning Center, and a learning center at Providence Unity Church of Christ in Chesapeake, Va. She was a member of the West Munden Civic League along side her husband where she served selflessly as the secretary for many years. Phyllis also authored two books: The Magic of Trace Minerals and Cell Salt and GarPhyl's Connection.
Phyllis leaves to cherish her loving memory, her adored children: Garland R. Williams Jr., Ranard P. Williams, Sr. (Sabrina), bonus son LeMans Fuller, and her only daughter Erika Williams; her loving grandchildren: Shantelle Haggins, Shani Williams, Shadae Williams, Erik Johnson, Taniyah Williams, Ashley Williams, Ranard Williams Jr., and Jacob Williams. She also leaves to mourn her brothers: Elder Milton Featherston, Sr. (Leosia), and Bishop Jesse Featherston, Sr. (Jacinta); along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday; October 23, 2023 at C.H. Mason Memorial; 744 Goff St; Norfolk, VA 23504. Viewing will be from 3-5pm Sunday at Fitchett-Mann Funeral Services; 1146 Rodgers St, Chesapeake, VA 23324. Burial will be Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery; Suffolk, VA.Please continue to pray for the family.
