Obituary

Richmond - Nathan Jarvis Jr., affectionately known as Bobby or Nate, passed away peacefully on Saturday; April 26, 2025, at the age of 88, following an extended illness. Born on April 20, 1937 in Norfolk County, Virginia (now present-day Chesapeake), he was the eldest son of the late Nathan Jarvis and Eula Moore Jarvis.

Mr. Jarvis received his education in the Norfolk County Public Schools and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army, receiving his honorable discharge in February 1958. A long-time resident of Richmond, Virginia, he retired from Cox Demolition Systems, where he was employed as a truck driver.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Doretha Jarvis; and his children: Drenette Jarvis (Jimmy) Chance of Chesapeake, VA; Nadine Stubblefield (James) of Hampton, VA; Dedra Jarvis (Tracy) Brown of Chesapeake, VA; Nathan Jarvis (Chandi Manooa) of Wilmington, NC; Delores (Craig) Paulding of Chesapeake, VA; and Natisha Jarvis of Raleigh, NC. He also leaves behind two stepchildren: Roxanne Jackson of Modesto, CA and Wardell Jackson of Richmond, VA.

His memory will also be cherished by his siblings: Carolyn Etheridge of Chesapeake, VA; Melvin Jarvis (Sonya) of Patterson, CA; Clifton Jarvis (Kathy) of Chesapeake, VA; and Elvy Jarvis of Chesapeake, VA. In addition, he leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Eula Jarvis; his sister, Sandra Sears; and his son, Teon Jarvis.

Nathan will be remembered for his smile and strong spirit. He touched the lives of many and will be missed.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday; May 20, 2025, at 11:00 am at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery;  5310 Milners Road; Suffolk, VA 23434.
