Maurece
Walker
July 6, 1971 – December 29, 2025
Norfolk-Maurece "Moe" Walker, a Norfolk resident and native of Jackson, Miss., died Monday morning, December, 29, 2025, at age 54.
Maurece graduated from Lanier High School in Jackson and attended Hinds Community College, majoring in graphics design. In his teens, he was a founding member of the rap duo Boyz With No I.Q - short for no intention to quit.
Affectionately known also as Rece Nice and Mr. Nice Guy, Maurece endeared himself to many with his brilliant smile and easygoing demeanor. Among his talents: self-described "sit-down" comic, model car hobbyist, pencil sketch artist, profound poet and lyricist, music producer and culinary king. He also enjoyed vintage comic books.
After high school, Maurece began his career with The Clarion-Ledger and worked as a press operator for the majority of his nearly 20 years with the media outlet. After moving from Jackson to Chesapeake, Va., in 2007, he worked as a press operator for The Virginian-Pilot and in grocery operations for Farm Fresh and Kroger. Customers and colleagues absolutely loved him.
Maurece then made a dramatic professional shift in 2019 and trained as a plumbing technician, working for Michael and Son Services. A new crop of customers and colleagues continued to love him. But no one loved him more than his family. As Paw Paw, he was larger than life to his grandchildren. As Dad, he was comforter, comedian and quick to the rescue.
Maurece spent more than two decades in marriage to his former wife, Jamesetta M. Walker, with whom he remained remarkably close. They first bonded over music - trading ridiculous Tupac conspiracy theories - and a shared view over the state of this world. And later, of course, over their children and grandchildren. Maurece had a spirit of servitude, ever eager to make others happy. His family's greatest wish was that he would come to believe in his own worth, not just to others, but for himself.
Left to cherish his memory are children: Kassydi, Kylei and Perrin (Nadia) Walker; grandchildren: Ayden and Ayva Mitchell - all of Chesapeake; mother of his children, Jamesetta, also of Chesapeake; brothers: Bobby (Charlene) King and Jason and Michael Walker of Jackson, Miss.; several nieces and nephews; and longtime special friends: Rickey Stewart and Miranda Nicole Stewart of Minneapolis.
Maurece was predeceased by mother Daloria Dale Walker and grandmother Hattie Bell Quick Walker.
A memorial will be held at 1 pm Saturday; January 31, 2026 at The Venue on 35th; 631 W. 35th St. #3103; Norfolk VA, 23508. May Maurece rest in our eternal embrace. Please keep the family in prayer.
