Obituary

Virginia Beach- Marcella Miller Stevens, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend departed this life on May 27, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on August 27, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marcella was the cherished daughter of Marcella Miller (Richardson) and William Andrew Miller. She was raised in a loving home alongside her siblings— Katherine, Walter, and Anna Lee—and carried her family's values of service, strength, and grace throughout her life.

Marcella was a proud graduate of Philadelphia's Simon Gratz High School and went on to build a distinguished professional career. She retired as Executive Assistant to the President of Hahnemann University Hospital, where she was known for her exceptional diligence, poise, and leadership behind the scenes. Her lifelong commitment to service began in her youth when she volunteered with the United Service Organizations (USO), offering care and comfort to American troops. In her retirement, she continued this spirit of service, first as Secretary to Bishop S. Todd Townsend Sr. at both Second Antioch Baptist Church of Philadelphia and The Resurrection Center of Wilmington, DE. She later served as Executive Secretary to Bishop Anthony B. Rodgers at First Baptist Church Crestwood, The Restoration Center in Chesapeake, VA, faithfully supporting the ministry and community she loved.  Marcella's faith was central to her life. She was ordained as an Elder at First Baptist Church Crestwood, The Restoration Center, a role that reflected her spiritual strength and deep commitment to God and community.

Marcella was united in partnership with her ex-husband, Edward James Stevens Jr., and later shared her life with her beloved partner, Jerry Lee Grant. From these unions came her greatest joys: her children—Vincent Stevens (Stephanie), David Stevens, Daphne Gayle, Sharlene "Patricia" Waller (Richard), Jerrolld "Tracy" Lemelle (Jennifer), and stepson, Wade Stevens. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Gina (Jarrard), Cynthia, Onaje (Amber), Steven (Anjail), Njeri (Aaron), Tiamoyo, T'keyah, Deshaun, DaVaughn, Dalven, Damar, Naajeeah, and Rasheeda, and her 11 great-grandchildren. She poured her heart into raising a strong and loving family, leaving a legacy rooted in faith, wisdom, and compassion.  Marcella's presence lit every room. She was affectionately known as Marcie, Gam, Nana, Momatiba, or Mom-T. Her elegance, humor, and enduring faith will be dearly missed by all whohad the honor of knowing her.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Vincent and Jerrolld; her sister, Anna Lee; her brother, Walter; her ex-husband Edward; her partner,  Jerry; her granddaughter, T'Keyah; and her parents.  She leaves to cherish her memory her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Katherine, extended family, church community, a host of honorary children and grandchildren, and many dear friends.
