September 3, 1941 – February 21, 2024
Chesapeake-Hattie Ruth Beale, 82, lovingly known as Ma Hattie, left for her eternal home on Wednesday; February 21, 2024. She was born September 3, 1941 to the late Anderson and Ruth Beale.
Hattie was educated in Chesapeake Public Schools. She graduated from Crestwood High School where she participated in the band. Her entire career was centered around housekeeping. She worked for Cambridge Manor Apartments for 35 years until she retired.
Hattie accepted Christ as a young woman and was a longtime member of Greater St. Andrews AME Church. She begin playing the piano at the church at the age of 14. She was an active member until her health failed.
Ma Hattie was loved by so many because she cared for so many. She was sweet, kind, mild-mannered and welcoming. She was very soft spoken but always willing to offer support. Her passion for spending time with her brothe, sisters and family meant so much. She always looked forward to cooking and enjoying Queen City Day with family. She was definitley a Queen City Girl. Like all the Beale girls, she loved clothes, dressing up and dancing.
Preceding her in death was her parents, Anderson and Ruth Beale; sisters: Helen Toliver, Agnes Creecy, Rosa Creecy and Evelyn Claggion.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a son Bobby Ray Beale; daughter-in-law, Tammy R. Givens; three grandsons; Jason Taylor (Amanda), Bobby Taylor and Winston Rice all of Chesapeake, VA; four great grandsons: Jaylen Curtis, Ja'Veon Taylor, Jason Taylor Jr. and Kingston Rice; one brother, Percell Beale of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters: Shirley Dillard of Norfolk, VA and Emma Harold of Chesapeake, VA; dear friends: Margie Dowdy and Priscilla Tennyson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be 11:00 am Tuesday; March 5, 2024 at Bethany Baptist Church; Chesapeake, VA. Viewing will be 4-6pm Monday; March 4, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
