Gloria Mae
Gaston
June 4, 1942 – January 13, 2026
Chesapeake-Gloria M. Gaston went home on Tuesday; January 13, 2026 in Portsmoth, VA. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 4, 1942. Gloria was the tenth child out of thirteen children by her parents Willie and Cora Anderson, both who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Evelyn, Willie, Patsy, Mary, Joseph, Odebee, James, Isaac, Cora, Richard, and Robert.
Gloria Anderson attended Carver High School in New Orleans. She went to New York in 1962, and married her husband, William H. Gaston from Georgia, and to this union five children were born. She worked at various jobs until she was employed by General Motors from 1974 until 1980.
Before being employed at General Motors, God came into her life, and she received salvation and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. God worked in Gloria's life allowing her to be a light and witness to her other co-workers, and God called her off the job. She then became a health care aide to her Pastor Elvie Payne until he was called home in 1990. Elder Payne worked closely in teaching Gloria in God's word, and living a holy lifestyle for living.
Prior to Elder Payne's death Gloria worked with him at New Calvery Church of God in Christ. She held positions as a Pastor's Aide, Prayer & Bible Band Leader, Trustee Board, Deaconess and custodian. Under Elder Payne, Gloria received her license as a Missionary. The reason Elder Payne licensed Gloria was because "God spoke to him to confirm that she was a Missionary indeed. (Ephesians 4:11).
After the death of her beloved pastor, teacher, friend and Father in the gospel. Gloria was led of the Lord to affiliate herself under watch care with Pastor Carlton C. Spruill of Allen Memorial Church of God in Christ, Mount Vernon, New York. She was a mighty prayer warrior and was faithful to her job come rain, shine, snow, holidays and not even taking care of her grandchildren would stop her from being on her post from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. One thing could be said by all "Sister Gaston was faithful to God and the prayer."
She is survived by her husband of 65 years William H. Gaston; children: Linda Anderson-Jones (Donald); Annette Gaston-Johnson (Ernest); William Gaston, Jr. (Cynthia); Ruth Gaston-Nichols (Arthur); and John Gaston, (Martia); nine grandchildren; eleven great granadchildren; one sister, Hazel Sorina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
