December 18, 1947 – March 3, 2025
Chesapeake-On Monday, March 3, 2025, Floyd E. Fitchett, Jr. peacefully slipped away with his beloved wife by his side. Although we the family are heartbroken by our loss, we are rejoicing that he is no longer suffering and in pain for "HE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT & NEVER COMPLAINED."
Floyd Jr. was born December 18, 1947, to the late Floyd & Marie Fitchett, Sr. in Norfolk, VA. He was educated in Chesapeake Public Schools and later joined the US Navy. Upon returning from the Navy, he went on to work at the family business beside his father at Fitchett Funeral Home, Inc. Working at the funeral home allowed him to meet different people from all walks of life. He never judged people and always gave them the benefit of the doubt.
"East Coast Billy D", as he was affectionately called, was well known and enjoyed all the pleasures of life. When he put on his suit and cologne, you couldn't tell him nothing! People loved Floyd Jr. and he loved the people which is why you might have seen the hearse out your neighborhood with him chilling and mingling with friends. He was known to travel, was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, loved watching cowboy movies and his favorite cake was Pineapple Upside Down Cake.
Floyd loved the Crestwood community and often assisted the elderly in the community with their flowers beds and housework that they needed done.
Preceding Floyd Jr. in death was his parents, Floyd E. Fitchett, Sr. (Dannie) & Ethel Marie Sparrow (Willard); and one sister, Brenda Anthony.
Left to cherish his memory and legacy is his beloved and devoted wife of over 54 years, Phyllis S. Fitchett; two daughters: Danielle M. Fitchett-Mann (Darryl) and Dominique Fitchett; four special grandchildren: Derrick "DJ" Harris, Jr., Anika Fitchett, Akayla Wilson and Reginald "Lil Reggie" Wilson; two great grandkids: Noah & Nola Harris; four sisters: Patricia Fitzgerald (Vernon), Paula James, Kimberly Sparrow and Dara Harper (Robert); two brothers: Michael Baker, Sr. (Valarie) and Donald Sparrow; one sister-in-law: Carolyn Williams; three brothers-in-law: Stanley Smith, Wayne Smith (Iris) Malcolm Anthony; three aunts: Ruth McDaniels, Jean Johnson (Otho) and Ann Boone; and a host, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11am Thursday; March 13, 2025 at Providence UCC; 2200 Vicker Avenue; Chesapeake, VA 23324. Viewing will be Wednesday at Fitchett-Mann FS; 1821 E. Liberty Street; Chesapeake, VA 23324. Entombment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
