Portsmouth-Dennis Thomas Washington El transcended into eternal rest on Tuesday; March 3, 2026. He was born to the late Helen Washington on April 27, 1962 in Brooklyn New York.
Dennis attended and graduated from Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, New York. He continued his education at Five Towns College Merrick New York and received his AAS Contemporary Music Degree. Throughout his life, he built an extraordinary and diverse career that reflected his dedication to service, creativity, and community.
He proudly served with the Newport News Sheriff's Department, where he upheld the law with integrity and commitment. He also served as a Resource Officer for Norfolk Public Schools, helping to keep students safe, and as a Security Officer at Norfolk General Hospital, extending his protective spirit to those most in need of care. His service continued with the City of Chesapeake Mosquito Control, where he contributed to the health and well-being of the community. He was also a commissioned Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia and a licensed Private Investigator, demonstrating his sharp mind and eye for detail.
Beyond his years of public service, his entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly. He was the proud founder of Krystal Line Studios, where he poured his passion into music as a dedicated music producer, leaving behind a creative legacy that touched many lives. His talents also rang out through the church, where he faithfully served as a church musician, using his gifts to glorify God and uplift his congregation. He also built and operated A-Pristeen Clean Pressure Washing and Cleaning Service, a testament to his tireless work ethic and pride in a job well done.
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Washington; his aunt, Margaret Fraizer; and his uncle, Louis Fraizer.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife Basha Washington El; his children: Denise Washington, Dennis Thomas Washington, Jr., Devon Washington, Davina Washington, and Kendra Washington; close niece & nephew, Maurice Washington and Crystal Washington; one sister Margie Washington-Crawford (James Crawford); two uncles: James (Russie) Washington and John Washington; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held 1pm Friday; March 13, 2026 at New Garden of Prayer; 1409 Marshall Avenue; Portsmouth, VA.
