Darlene Anita
Cooper Chapman
July 22, 1957 – March 8, 2025
Suffolk-Darlene Anita Cooper-Chapman, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, peacefully passed away on March 8th, 2025. She was born at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA on July 22, 1957 to Doris and Isaac Cooper Sr.
Darlene attended Chesapeake Public Schools and later joined the Army Reserves where she proudly served in Desert Storm. Afterward, she worked at and retired from Oceana Commissary.
Darlene was a vibrant force in the lives of everyone she touched. Shewas a devoted mother and she always made sure her children felt the love and support she provided. Darlene took special joy in watching her grandchildren grow up. She was not only a beautiful woman but also had an outgoing and lively personality. Darlene had a deep love for music and could always be found with the radio playing "ALL DAY LONG." If you knew her well enough for a visit, her home was filled with crystal and plants that she was very proud of. She will be truly missed by our family.
Darlene was a kind yet firm person, always speaking her mind with honesty to those she cherished. She had a unique way of making jokes, always coming from a place of kindness and a desire to bring laughter to those around her. "God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference." This was her favorite quote, one she often
shared with her children to help them understand the meaning of life.
Darlene was predeceased by her mother, Doris Cooper; father, Isaac Cooper Sr.; brother, Isaac Cooper Jr.; and husband, Henry Chapman. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, cherished by her two children, Ricky Perry Jr. (Stacy) and Darnita Chapman; two sisters,
Dianne Montgomery and Daretta Giles (Michael); two brothers, Garland Cooper (Caressa) and George Cooper Sr. (Cynthia); three grandchildren: Daquay, Trent, and Elijah; and a host of other relatives and friends.
