Obituary

Chesapeake- With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Christopher Augustus Duke, affectionately known as “Chris,” who departed this life on Saturday; September 5, 2026. Born on October 8, 1965, in Norfolk, Virginia, Chris was a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend whose kindness, adventurous spirit, and love for life touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Chris was the devoted son of Joan S. Duke and the late Augustus Duke, III. He was a cherished brother to Bonita Davis, Troy Duke, Sr., and Kenneth Duke, Sr. (Robin). Family held a special place in Chris’s heart, and the love and memories he shared with those closest to him will forever be treasured.

A proud graduate of Deep Creek High School, Chris answered the call to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He served with honor and distinction, demonstrating a spirit of dedication, courage, and commitment. His military service also provided opportunities to explore new places, further inspiring his lifelong passion for travel, adventure, and photography.

Chris possessed a remarkable appreciation for the beauty of the world around him. With a camera in hand and a spirit eager for discovery, he found joy in exploring unfamiliar places, capturing unforgettable moments, and sharing his experiences with family and friends. Through his photography, Chris preserved not only images but also memories, allowing others to see the world through his unique perspective.

Beyond his love for travel and photography, Chris will be remembered for his genuine kindness, compassionate heart, and warm personality. He had a special way of making others feel valued and appreciated. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a thoughtful conversation, or simply being present for someone in need, Chris demonstrated a generosity of spirit that left a lasting impression.

His life was a beautiful reflection of curiosity, creativity, service, and love. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Although Chris is no longer with us in person, his spirit lives on through the countless memories, shared laughter, treasured photographs, and enduring love he leaves behind.  May we remember Chris not only with tears for his passing, but also with gratitude for the beautiful moments, adventures, and memories we were blessed to share with him.

Forever in our hearts. Forever a part of our story. Forever loved.
