Chesapeake-Carrie Lee Slade was born on November 20, 1939 and fell asleep peacefully in death on October 29, 2025 (85).  She was born in Millen, Georgia to the late Harry Burton and Bessie Lightfoot and was the eldest of 16 children.

Carrie graduated from Jenkins county high school in Millen Ga. and also graduated from Wilford academy of hair and beauty culture in Brooklyn NY. Carrie was employed at Medgar Evers college as an educator for their head start program. When she wasn't working with children she would work as a licensed beautician. She had a passion for gardening and cooking. She was viewed as a mother figure to many.

Carrie was a faithful servant of Jehovah and attended the Kingdom Hall. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's witnesses on March 18, 2014 and served faithfully.

Carrie leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband , Cornelius Slade; her sons: Rodney Hall (Darlene), Nicholas Slade; her daughters: Regina Wallace, Seczuetta Slade, Najoyaa Tillett (Travis); her grandchildren: Kyonna, Shamiea, Xavier (Cherraé) Ayana, Freddy, Dior, Natalia and great grand children: Zaire, Khloe, Ja'Zeon, Eryn, Gianni. Siblings: Christine Hall, Diane Hall, Moses Hall, Norma Jean Hall, Richard Jones, Willie Frank Grant and Deloris Shaffer. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that loved her dearly.

A funeral service will be held Noon Saturday; November 15, 2025 at Fitchett-Mann Funeral Services; 1146 Rodgers Street; Chesapeake, VA  23324.  Viewing will be 4-6pm Friday.  Burial will be in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
