Carolyn Darlene
Slight Lincoln
November 26, 1949 – December 18, 2025
Chesapeake-On Thursday, December 18, 2025, Carolyn peacefully transitioned from labor to reward. She was born on November 26, 1949, in the beautiful city of Norfolk, Virginia to the late Isaiah Rhodes and the late Iola Slayton. Carolyn was the youngest of two children.
Carolyn received her early education in the Chesapeake public school system and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1968. She later continued her education at Norfolk State University.
A devoted woman of faith, Carolyn loved the Lord and accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a long-standing member of Cathedral of Faith, where her dedication, involvement, and love for Christ were evident. Under the leadership of Bishop G. W. Hardy and Reverend Doris Hardy, her faithful service was recognized with the prestigious honor of being named a Mother of the Church, a role she served in for many years until her health declined.
Affectionately known as "Carol" by some, Carolyn found great joy in being a good steward of God's Word through Bible devotion, gospel music, and spending rich quality time with her family and friends. Carolyn was the devoted mother of her only child, Percy Theran Slight. Her son Percy
(Demeca) is the proud father of one son, RoSean Morris, and one daughter Diyonah Contee, whom Carolyn loved dearly.
Throughout her life, Carolyn had a genuine love for people, which was evident during her 30-year tenure at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where she began her career as a crane operator, during which time she made history as the first female crane operator supervisor, retiring in 2009.
Raised in South Hill, Carolyn developed a passion for life, love, and good times–qualities she carried with her throughout adulthood. Through acts of service, gratitude, and generosity, she continuously gave of herself to her family, friends, neighbors, and various community outreach
organizations until her passing.
Left to cherish and carry on her legacy are her beloved son, grandchildren, and niece Angela Davis. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her dear friend, Brenda Wyman; along with a host of loving relatives, friends, and acquaintances.
A funeral service will be held Noon Monday; December 29, 2025 at Cathedral of Faith COGIC. Viewing will be 1 hour prior to service. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park; Chesapeake, VA.
