Obituary

Chesapeake-On December 3, 2025, at 6:20 p.m., God in His infinite wisdom called home one of His most cherished flowers, Carolyn Jarvis Etheridge. Born on July 27, 1940, to the late Nathan and Eula Jarvis, Carolyn lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.

At an early age, Carolyn surrendered her life to the Lord and was baptized at Little Zion Baptist Church, where she joyfully sang in the Choir. Later, she joined Lee's Chapel A.M.E. Church to worship alongside her beloved husband, Morris Etheridge Jr., and remained a faithful member until her passing.

Carolyn and Morris shared 61 years of marriage, blessed with two daughters. She was educated in the Norfolk County School System,  graduating from Crestwood High School, where she showcased her musical talents in both band and chorus. In 1965, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Norfolk State College.

Her career as an educator spanned 35 years in the Chesapeake Public School System, where she inspired countless young minds and received numerous awards for her excellence in teaching. Carolyn's dedication to her students reflected her deep commitment to nurturing and guiding others. Beyond her professional life, Carolyn was the heart of her family. Always ready to lend a hand, she was a source of strength and comfort in difficult times. Strong-willed and principled, she stood firmly for what she believed was right. She cherished the wisdom of her mother, which guided her throughout her life. Known for her hospitality, Carolyn delighted in cooking and welcoming guests with warmth and generosity.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Etheridge Jr.; her brother, Nathan Jarvis; and her sister, Sandra Sears. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Denita Sedelle Sawyer (Bobby) and Savonne Etheridge McNeill; two brothers, Melvin Jarvis Sr. (Sonia) and Clifton Jarvis (Kathalia); two sisters, Elvy Jean Jarvis and Laverne Boykins (Ernest); her granddaughter, JaNita Sawyer; grandson, Daryl McNeill Jr.; and great-granddaughter, JaNiya Sawyer Riddick. She will also be lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and
