Obituary

Va Beach- On Monday, March 25, 2024, Betty Jean Spence, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, 68, of Virginia Beach, VA transitioned to her forever home.

Betty Jean was born on October 5, 1955 to Norman Alexander SR. and Flora Boone in Chesapeake, VA. She attend Chesapeake Public schools and went on to have an extensive employment record with Marriott, ODU and Virginia Weselyn College.

She had a smile that would light up any room and a heart of gold. Betty was always willing to help anyone. Her help consisted of offering kind words, giving gentle hugs, or even a listening ear supporting people through the many passions and difficulties of their lives.

She became passionate about traveling the world and exploring new places. She loved spending time with family and friends. It gave her great joy when she was in the presence of her loved ones, especially her children and grandchildren. That smile, yeah you know that smile, will be missed and it's embedded in our minds forever. She was raised in the church from an early age and always had God as the head of her life.

Betty Jean was passionate about her adventures. She enjoyed gospel concerts and if you did not find her jet setting, or bopping her head, she could be found scrolling on Facebook. I see her smiling over us and that smile will always be remembered through each of us. We will miss her greatly!

Betty Jean was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Flora Alexander; a sister, Juanita Fairchild; and a brother, Norman Alexander-Ferebee. She is survived and her memories will be cherished by her husband, Perry Lee Spence Sr.; daughter, Denise Wooten (Reginald)of Hampton, GA; Sons: Perry Lee Spence Jr (Christina) of Norfolk, VA, Christopher Spence (Kecia) of Williamsburg, VA, Antonio Spence (Emily) of Chesapeake, VA and Demetrius Spence of VA Beach; her brother-in-laws, Larry Spence (Eva) and Albert Spence (Carolyn); 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
