Vanceboro NC- Barbara Dawson Turnage,passionately known as "Barb" to family and friends, and "Bob" to her siblings, was born on November 20, 1960, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was born late at night and was always a night owl.
Barbara lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut, forapproximately 35 years before uprooting herself andher three children and relocating to Vanceboro, NorthCarolina. She attended Bridgeport Public Schools andgraduated from Central High School in 1978. Barbara later attended Housatonic Community College. Prior to relocating to North Carolina, she worked at Dinan Memorial Center as a certified C.N.A. Upon relocation, she was employed by Wilson Home Care, as an administrative assistant for approximately 14 years.
Barbara loved her children deeply and enjoyed her family immensely. She was known for her outspokenness and wits. To know Barbara was to loveher. Her three children, Shontelle, Jamar (Jazmine), and Jamel will cherish her forever. She also leaves to cherish her memories: mother, Hazel Green of Chesapeake, VA; seven brothers, Shade Green (Gail), Tyrone Dawson, Milton Green (Leslie), Bryant Green (Tammy), Dan Green, Willie Green (Mary), and Wilbert Green (Tracey); seven precious grandchildren and the apples of her eye, Aurieon, Ava, Jeremiah, Alayiah, Aryana, Avonna, and Averi; one aunt, Edna Bridgeforth; great aunt, Lizzie Cannon; cousins whowere more like siblings, Joyce, Denise, Raymond, Bobby, and Jeffrey; life- long best friend, Kim Lanham; goddaughter, Kisha Armistead; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Waiting to welcome Barbara at the pearly gates was her father, Milton Green, Sr.; grandparents, Felbarie and Joseph Dawson; and her mother andfather-in-law, Glenn and Mary Turnage.
A graveside service will be held 2pm Thursday; May 2, 2024 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens; 3920 Airline Boulevard Chesapeake, Virginia 23321.
