Agenora Hortense
Taylor
February 11, 1939 – July 7, 2024
Chesapeake-With sincere compassion and concern, the Fitchett-Mann family stands hand in hand with the relatives of Mrs. Agenora Hortense Taylor as they prepare to celebrate her lasting legacy.
In the early afternoon of July 7, 2024, God reached out his mighty hand and said, "Welcome Home, My Good And Faithful Servant, Welcome Home!!"
Agenora Hortense Taylor was born on February 11, 1939, to Deree and Susie Smith in Norfolk VA. She grew up in Chesapeake, VA where she resided until her death. She attended Chesapeake Public Schools and dedicated her life to the care of her home and children.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Johhny Clayton Taylor, Sr.; two brothers: Edgar Freeman and Lorenzo Smith. Also awaiting her arrival in heaven with open arms are her daughter, Susie Smith; sons: Johnny Taylor, Jr. and Michael Taylor; three grandchildren: Jaden Michelle, Tevann Taylor and Jermaine Custis.
Agenora professed her faith in Christ at a young age and was a member of St. Stevens Church of God in Christ for many years. While there, she sang in the choir, played the piano, and served on the Missionary Board. On June 3, 2018, Agenora was ordained as an Evangelist. In this role she mentored many in their Christian faith walk. Later, along, with several of her children, she joined New Life Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death.
To Agenora, FAMILY WAS EVERYTHING!! A self-taught pianist and saxophonist, the most precious memories are of her playing the piano with the family boisterously singing along, or of friends and family gathered to happily devour her yeast rolls, homemade dressing or banana pudding.
She leaves to cherish her memory, seven daughters: Angela Taylor-Haynes, Debra Taylor Hoskie (Clarence), Marjorie Taylor Arrington, Terri Taylor-Walker Maggie P. "Trecy" Woods all of Chesapeake, VA; Virginia Taylor-Ricks (Joseph) of Portsmouth, VA and Linda Kearney of Virginia Beach, VA; four sisters: A. Louise Johnson, Sandra Harvey, Ella Mae Wilson and Margaret Coleman; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
